Module 9. Human factors

Consumption of alcohol

  • increases mental and physical reaction times.
  • does not change mental or physical reactions.
  • decreases mental and physical reaction times.

Explanation

Alcohol is a depressant that slows the nervous system, so it lengthens, or increases, both mental and physical reaction times, making responses slower. Saying it has no effect, or that it speeds reactions up, is the opposite of its true depressant action on performance.

THE_Eddie_ Murphy asking:

I chose the correct answer, as confirmed by the notes at the bottom. However, it was marked as incorrect.

Because reaction time is the delay before you respond and alcohol makes that delay longer, answer is A. If it said decreases reaction times that would mean you react faster, which is opposite of what alcohol does.
