Module 12. Helicopter aerodynamics, structures and systems

A redundant structure is

  • on-condition structure.
  • a safe-life structure.
  • a failsafe structure.

Explanation

A redundant structure is one with surplus load paths, so it is by definition a fail-safe structure; loss of a single member does not cause collapse because the remaining paths take up the load. Safe-life and on-condition describe maintenance/life philosophies, not the multiple-load-path arrangement.

Jordi asking:

why not safe life?
