Module 8. Basic aerodynamics

Stall inducers may be fitted to a wing

  • at the root to cause the root to stall first.
  • at the tip to cause the root to stall first.
  • at the root to cause the tip to stall first.

Explanation

Stall inducers (stall strips) are fitted at the wing root so the root reaches its stalling angle before the tip. This keeps the outboard wing and ailerons effective during the early stall, preserving roll control and giving a more docile, controllable stall.
