In normal flight conditions, an increase in aircraft speed

  • causes the nose of the aircraft to lift.

For a longitudinally stable aircraft trimmed at a given speed, an increase in airspeed produces more lift than is needed for balance, so the aircraft pitches nose-up and tends to climb back toward its trimmed condition. This speed stability returns the aircraft to its original trimmed airspeed.
