Module 8. Basic aerodynamics

Lift is generated by a wing

  • mostly on the bottom surface.
  • mostly on the top surface.
  • equally on both the top and bottom surfaces.

Explanation

Lift comes from the pressure difference across the wing, and the greater part is generated by the suction (reduced pressure) over the curved upper surface as the air accelerates over it. The increased pressure on the lower surface contributes a smaller share, so lift is produced mostly on the top surface.

Jordi asking:

why is it mostly on the top and not on the bottom?Shouldn't it be the bottom?
