An anti-balance tab is used
- to relieve hinge loads on the controls.
- for trimming the aircraft during cruise flight.
- to give more feel to the controls.
Explanation
An anti-balance tab moves in the same direction as the control surface, increasing the aerodynamic load the pilot feels and so giving more feel and stability to a surface that would otherwise be over-sensitive. Because it adds load rather than relieving it, it is not used to reduce hinge loads or to trim.
