An ALU performs the following

  • Arithmetic and Logic operations only.
  • Input/Output operations, Arithmetic, Logic Functions.
  • Arithmetic, Logic, Branching and Find Instructions.

Explanation from PART66Online

As its name states, the arithmetic logic unit performs only arithmetic and logic operations on data. Input/output handling and program branching are managed by other parts of the processor, such as the control section, so options adding those functions overstate what the ALU itself does.

Input/output operations is CU function in CPU, isn't?
