When testing EGT probe
- it must be soaked and ambient temperature allowance taken into consideration.
- not necessarily soaked but ambient temperature must be taken into consideration.
- if not soaked, the standard ambient temperature of 15 degrees C is assumed.
Explanation
An EGT probe is a thermocouple, so its output depends on the temperature difference between the hot and cold (reference) junctions. The probe must be heat-soaked to a known, stable temperature and the ambient temperature at the reference junction allowed for, otherwise the indicated reading will be in error. Assuming a fixed standard ambient without soaking gives inaccurate test results.
