Module 17. Propeller

On an electrical deicing system fast cycle is used

  • at low air temperature.
  • at high air temperature.
  • on the ground.

Explanation

On a cyclic electrical de-icing system, the fast (short) cycle is selected in warmer air, where ice forms slowly and only brief, frequent heating is needed to keep the boots clear. In very cold air, where ice accretes heavily, a slow cycle giving longer heat-on periods per section is used instead.

max.steelame asking:

fast cycle means more deicing so if the temp of the air high, it requires less deicing so switching cycle should be less.

fast cycle = timer on for 10 secs & off for 60secs for between -6oC & +10oC. heats for short time, light icing.
slow cycle = timer on timer on for 20 secs & off for 60secs for below -6oC. heats for longer time, heavier icing.
