Module 17. Propeller

To fit a new front cone to a prop shaft firstly

  • etch the propeller serial number to the rear face.
  • cut in half with a hacksaw and etch a unique serial number to both halves.
  • coat in Engineers blue to ensure seating in the propeller front boss.

Explanation

A propeller-shaft front cone is a split cone used as a matched pair, so a new one-piece blank is first cut into two halves and both halves are marked with the same identifying number to keep them together. This ensures the matched pair stays as a set; checking seating with engineers blue is a later step, not the first action.

i have just studied props and i thought the same as you that this question was incorrect. but read the question asks about FRONT cones. the application of engineering blue is the correct fro rear cone seating. in the jepperson propeller book it does mention cutting the front cone in half.
