Target Group 1: qualified staff performing EWIS maintenance.
Target Group 2: qualified staff performing maintenance inspections on EWIS.
AMC 20-22 gives category B2 technicians as an example in both groups.

Scope of this courseThis is theoretical training only. AMC 20-22 Module G (connective devices repair) is primarily a hands-on class in which Target Group 1 staff demonstrate connector repair. That hands-on element is not covered here and is for your organisation to deliver and record. Target Groups 3 to 8 are out of scope.

The rule this training answers

AMC 20-22

AMC 20-22 (Aeroplane Electrical Wiring Interconnection System Training Programme) provides acceptable means of compliance for the EWIS training obligations of approved organisations, including points 145.A.30 and 145.A.35 of Part-145 and M.A.706 of Part-M. It defines eight target groups. Groups 1 and 2 are the staff directly involved in the maintenance and inspection of EWIS, and their syllabus and curriculum are in Appendices A and C (subjects and Modules A to G).

AMC 20-22 is guidance: it describes acceptable means, but not the only means, of compliance. It allows computer-based training, leaves the method of assessment to the training organisation and sets no pass mark. The 75% pass mark on this course is our own assessment standard.

From the course introduction

Welcome to your Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) Target Group 1-2 training. This is an initial course - your first full grounding in EWIS for maintenance and inspection staff in a Part-145 organisation. You do not need to have seen any of this before. We start from first principles - what an EWIS actually is, why ageing wiring can become dangerous, and how ordinary maintenance either protects or quietly wrecks it - and build every idea up to the point where you can inspect, maintain and repair wiring the right way and know when you must stop and consult the data.

Here is the single idea the whole course rests on. The wiring on an aeroplane is not a single component you can lifetime and replace - it is a system, spread through every zone, that ages in place for the whole life of the aircraft. It is safe not because faults never occur, but because the installation keeps electrical energy separated from the things it could damage or ignite, and because people find and correct wiring problems before they grow. Maintenance is exactly where that protection is either preserved or lost - by a chafed bundle nobody spotted, a clamp moved for convenience, a puddle of metal swarf left in a connector, or a repair done to appearance instead of to the data. EWIS training exists to make you see wiring as a safety system and treat it like one.

AMC 20-22 says refresher training should be conducted in a period not exceeding two years. Your certificate shows a "Refresh due by" date 24 months after issue.

This is independent training mapped to the applicable AMC and GM. Part66Online is not a Part-147 approved organisation, and no Part-147 approval is needed for this training. Final acceptance toward your training obligations rests with your employing organisation and its competent authority.

Which target group am I in?

AMC 20-22 defines eight. Target Group 1 is qualified staff performing EWIS maintenance; Target Group 2 is qualified staff performing maintenance inspections on EWIS. Which one applies depends on your job description and the work you do, and if your duties fall into more than one group you must meet the objectives of each.

Does this course cover the practical part?

No. This is the theoretical training. AMC 20-22 Module G (connective devices repair) is primarily a hands-on class in which Target Group 1 staff demonstrate connector repair. That hands-on element is not covered here and is for your organisation to deliver and record. After you pass, a practical record template (form P66CT-2) is available in My Training for your organisation to record it on.

Does AMC 20-22 set a pass mark?

No. It leaves the method of assessment to the training organisation and states no pass mark or course length. The 75% pass mark here is our own assessment standard.

Should I take the Initial or the Continuation course?

Take Initial if you have not had EWIS training before. Take Continuation if you have, and your refresher is due.
