The inlet of a turbo fan is

  • divergent
  • convergent
  • convergent-divergent

Explanation from PART66Online

A subsonic turbofan intake acts as a divergent diffuser: the duct area increases rearward so incoming air slows and its static pressure rises before reaching the fan, improving compression efficiency. A convergent or convergent-divergent shape would accelerate the flow, which is not wanted at the fan face on a subsonic engine.

Hello.

Check this schematics of CFM56 as example: farm1.static.flickr.com/55/135132177_...
AS you can see, inlet is divergent, but compressor is convergent.

aim there is to slow air and increase pressure, making it easy to process and also if air gets faster, fan blades can achieve supersonic speed which doesnt wanted.
