Module 15. Gas turbine engine

On a (VP) cocoon bag, if the humidity indicator turns pink/lilac

  • desiccant is effective and does not need changing.
  • desiccant is ineffective and needs changing.
  • desiccant is changed weekly.

Explanation

On a vapour-proof cocoon bag a humidity indicator turning pink or lilac shows the trapped air has become moist, meaning the desiccant is saturated and ineffective and must be changed. While blue it remains effective; the colour itself signals the desiccant's condition, not a fixed weekly schedule.

mwongela asking:

why change the desiccant and not confirm if there is anywhere the humidity is entering from? what is the reference?

Yes after the desiccant absorbs the moisture in the air it will turn pink. After it turns pink it can not absorb the moisture in air so it is ineffective and it should be replaced with a new one blue color.
