On a wing carrying under-slung engines a heavy landing combines wing-bending loads with the downward engine inertia loads, so distortion and wrinkling can appear on both upper and lower skin panels rather than only one surface. Restricting the expectation to just the bottom or just the top skin misses part of the load picture. Both skins should therefore be inspected.
