Module 2. Physics

A mass of 10kg placed 2 metres away from a pivot will have a moment of

  • 196 NM.
  • 150 NM.
  • 980 NM.

Explanation

A moment is force times perpendicular distance, and the force from a mass is its weight, mass times g. So the weight is 10 x 9.8 = 98 N, and the moment is 98 x 2 = 196 Nm. Multiplying the mass directly without converting to weight would be incorrect.

evamal asking:

How is this calculated ?

Hello!
10*9.81*2=196.2 NM
9.81 - acceleration of gravity
