Module 13. Aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems

With a bonding meter

  • it does not matter which lead goes where
  • the short lead to the aircraft airframe and long lead to the item
  • the long lead is attached to the aircraft air frame and short lead to item

Explanation

When using a bonding (milliohm) meter the long lead is clipped to a clean point on the aircraft structure and the short lead to the item under test. This keeps the short, low-resistance lead at the measurement point so lead resistance does not corrupt the very small bonding resistance being read. The arrangement does matter, so the leads are not interchangeable.

Dusiata asking:

Could you show which lead is longer on most common T477W bonding meter? I hope there won't be such questions on real exam...
