Module 11. Aeroplane aerodynamics, structures and systems

When aligning an aircraft for a compass swing, the maximum allowable error is

  • 1 degrees.
  • 3 degrees.
  • 5 degrees.

Explanation

When positioning an aircraft on each cardinal heading for a compass swing, the heading need only be set within a tolerance, the maximum allowable alignment error being about 5 degrees. Greater precision is unnecessary because the swing procedure averages the readings, but the aircraft must still be reasonably close to the intended heading.
