Module 12. Helicopter aerodynamics, structures and systems

When the rotor blade increases its angle of attack, the centre of pressure

  • does not move.
  • moves rearwards.
  • moves forward.

Explanation

Rotor blades use a symmetrical aerofoil whose centre of pressure stays essentially fixed near the quarter chord as angle of attack changes. This stable centre of pressure avoids large pitching moments on the blade, so increasing the angle of attack does not move it forward or rearward.

Storklubba asking:

Centre of pressure moves forward when AOA is increased?
