Module 13. Aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems

If a QFE is set at an airfield and flown to another airfield at the same level above sea level then

  • it will probably not need resetting and will read zero
  • it will display the airfield height above sea level
  • it will not need resetting and will read zero

Explanation

QFE is set so the altimeter reads zero on the airfield. Flown to another airfield at the same elevation, the local pressure is usually nearly the same, so the altimeter will probably not need resetting and will again read about zero on the ground. The qualifier reflects that small differences in local QNH can require a minor reset.

Jordi asking:

what is the purpose of the 2 answers here? They are basically the same apart from the word "probably" .
