Module 13. Aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems

What does a trim tab do?

  • Provides finer control movements by the pilot
  • Allows the C of G to be outside the normal limit
  • Eases control loading for pilot

Explanation

A trim tab is set to hold the main control surface in a position that balances the aerodynamic loads in steady flight. By taking out the residual stick or pedal force, it relieves the pilot of having to hold a constant pressure on the controls, easing control loading.

Jordi asking:

shouldn't this be servo tab?.The servo tab eases the loading.
