In a right-angled triangle the other two angles are both 45 degrees. The length of the opposite side can be calculated by

  • sin 45 degrees x length of the hypotenuse side of the triangle.
  • sin 45 degrees x length of the adjacent side of the triangle.
  • cos 45 degrees x length of the adjacent side of the triangle.

Explanation

In a right-angled triangle the side opposite an angle equals the hypotenuse multiplied by the sine of that angle, since sine = opposite / hypotenuse. So the opposite side is sin 45 degrees * hypotenuse. Multiplying by the adjacent side instead would not give the correct length.
