Module 13. Aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems

The specific gravity readings of a lead-acid cell taken twice after charging shows substantially lower value.

  • You replace the cell
  • You top up the cell with distilled water
  • Cell is defective

Explanation

If a lead-acid cell still shows a substantially low specific gravity after charging and a repeat reading confirms it, the active material or plates are no longer accepting charge, indicating the cell is defective. Topping up with distilled water corrects only a low electrolyte level, not a low specific gravity, so the cell itself is at fault.

MridulDev asking:

is this question tricky or this question is acting devil, why can't "replacing the cell" be a right answer. but i consider both answer to be correct. if any one can lighten up then that would be wonderful.

Self correction: there's no such think such as replaceable lead acid cell.(study a/c lead acid battery in detail u'll know). Hence "cell is defective" has to be right answer in this case.
