Module 11. Aeroplane aerodynamics, structures and systems

A restrictor in the landing gear hydraulic retraction and lowering system is positioned in the

  • landing gear down line.
  • return line from the landing gear selector.
  • landing gear up line.

Explanation

A restrictor (flow-control orifice) is placed in the gear-up (retraction) line to slow fluid into the actuators so the heavy gear retracts smoothly rather than slamming up against its locks. Lowering relies on gravity assist and is timed differently, so the restriction is fitted on the up side.

diaandrita asking:

Why? i though it will be positioned in the lowering line to damping landing gear extention due to aerodynamics loads.

the way i thought about is is this :To retract the wheels it should be at the upper line of the landing gear system. At least this is how i interpret it.Because it says "retraction" your asnwer whould be if it said extension of the landing gear.
