Module 12. Helicopter aerodynamics, structures and systems

In straight and level flight, the forward air speed is controlled by the

  • cyclic stick and the throttle.
  • the cyclic stick and the collective lever.
  • collective lever and the throttle.

Explanation

Forward airspeed in level flight is set by the cyclic, which tilts the disc to give forward thrust, working together with the collective, which adjusts total thrust/power so the helicopter stays level rather than climbing or descending as speed changes. The throttle is governed to hold rotor RPM and is not the primary airspeed control.

Jordi asking:

Shouldn't it be collective with throttle?

No. During flight, throttle is always fully open, so, to control direction you manage cyclic and to maintain height(or increase speed) the collective. Hope to be helpful

thank you for the answer,i managed to pass the module on my first try . Unfortunatelly not many questions (in my case) were from this site , so i would also advise people to read their textbooks.
