Module 1. Mathematics

One of the square roots of a positive number is positive. What is the other one?

  • positive
  • negative
  • positive or negative.

Explanation

Every positive number has two square roots that are equal in size but opposite in sign, because squaring a negative number also gives a positive result. If one root is positive, the other must be its negative counterpart. For example the roots of 9 are +3 and -3.

Jordi asking:

The other square root of a POSITIVE number is the NEGATIVE of the first one.

Ex square root of 4 = 2*2 and square root of minus 4 also equal
-2*-2 =4
