An atom with 5 electrons in its outer shell is
- trivalent.
- univalent.
- pentavalent.
Explanation
Valency follows the number of electrons in the outer shell, so an atom with five such electrons is pentavalent. Three would make it trivalent and one univalent, so five corresponds to pentavalent.

valence = 8-n
8-5=3
then is trivalent
8-5=3
then is trivalent

it isnt always 8-n for shells more than 4 and lower than 8 is 8-n
