Module 2. Physics

Oxygen, atomic number 8 is

  • divalent.
  • covalent.
  • bivalent.

Explanation

Oxygen has six electrons in its outer shell and needs two more to complete it, giving it a valency of two, so it is bivalent (divalent). Covalent describes a type of bond, not the valency of an element.

can someone explain

Oxygen has 2 electrons on first shell and 6 on second (outer shell). Knowing that 8 is a maximum number of electrons in second shell makes Oxygen bivalent. Bi meaning 2 for 2 free spaces in outer shell

you forgot tomention that electrons are 8 because the atomic number is 8 and the protons have the same number with electrons.
