Total resistance in a parallel resistor circuit, of R1 and R2 is

  • RT = 1/R1 + 1/R2.
  • 1/RT = (R1 * R2) ÷ (R1 + R2).
  • 1/RT = 1/R1 + 1/R2.

Explanation

For resistors in parallel the reciprocals of the individual resistances add to give the reciprocal of the total, so 1/RT = 1/R1 + 1/R2. The version RT = 1/R1 + 1/R2 is dimensionally wrong, and the product-over-sum form must equal RT itself, not 1/RT.

i think the answer here is wrong! the true answer is RT = (R1 x R2) ÷ (R1 + R2)
