Down going aileron will produce more drag than up going aileron because it has larger projection to the airflow. It also increases curvate of the profile what leads to increased lift, and as result increased induced drag. This effect can cause adverse yaw. To avoid this effect aircraft can be equipped with differential aileron controls or frise ailerons.
