A balance tab
- effectively increases the total area of the control surface.
- assists the pilot to move the controls.
- is used to trim the aircraft about the appropriate axis.
Explanation
A balance tab is geared to move automatically in the opposite direction to the control surface, producing an aerodynamic force that helps deflect the surface and so reduces the pilot's effort. It does not increase the surface area or, by itself, trim the aircraft, which is the role of a separate trim tab.
Matheus asking:
but some aircrafts have the balance tab adjusted manualy to help keeping the aircraft to the appropriate axis, doesn't it?

Servo tab - helps to move control surface, reduces the force required to move it. Pilot controls servo tab, not control surface itself.
Gear tab - same as servo tab but with gears to move tab at specific ratio.
Balance tab - helps to move control surface, reduces the force required to move it. Pilot controls control surface itself. Balance tab has a linkage with control surface.
Anti-balance tab - opposite to balance tab, increases required force to move control surface. In some cases this is required.
