The specific torque loading for a bolt is 50 lbs.ins but an extension of 2 inches is needed to reach the bolt in addition to the 8 inches torque wrench. What will the actual reading?
- 54 lb.ins.
- 40 lb.ins.
- 60 lb.ins.

When using an extension with a torque wrench, the applied torque to the bolt changes. In this case, the 2-inch extension increases the total length of the torque wrench to 10 inches (8 inches of the wrench + 2 inches of the extension). The formula to calculate the new reading is:
Actual reading = (Specific torque load × Length of the wrench) / Total length (wrench + extension)
So, for this question:
Actual reading = (50 lb.ins × 8 inches) / 10 inches = 40 lb.ins
Actual reading = (Specific torque load × Length of the wrench) / Total length (wrench + extension)
So, for this question:
Actual reading = (50 lb.ins × 8 inches) / 10 inches = 40 lb.ins
