Module 2. Physics

What frequency is a tone which is 4 times the fundamental frequency?

  • 2nd overtone.
  • 3rd overtone.
  • 3rd harmonic.

Explanation

A tone at four times the fundamental is the fourth harmonic. Because overtones are counted above the fundamental, the fourth harmonic is the third overtone. The "3rd harmonic" option is wrong, as that would be three times the fundamental rather than four.
