Multiplexing is the technique of combining multiple data signals onto a single transmission channel, then separating them at the receiving end. This dramatically reduces the amount of wiring needed in an aircraft — instead of running a separate wire for every signal, many signals share one cable or bus. Multiplexing is fundamental to aircraft data bus systems.
